A beautiful historic house set in a glorious landscape of gardens and parkland within the heart of Nottinghamshire. Experience the romance and mystery of Newstead Abbey, once home to the notorious poet, Lord Byron.

All year round visitors can enjoy its stunning grounds, which are an absolute delight in all seasons. Covering over 300 acres the gardens and parklands feature paths that meander past lakes, ponds and waterfalls.

From April to September, visitors may also explore the historic house with its medieval cloisters, splendid Victorian room settings and even the private apartments of Byron - complete with his personal belongings and the table at which he wrote his poetry.

Opening Times:

Grounds: Open all year round* 9am - 6pm/dusk (whichever is sooner).

House: Open to the public on Sundays, via house tours. These take place at 1pm and 2pm (subject to demand) and last approximately 45 minutes.

The house is also available for private tours and special events, these must be arranged in advance. Minimum of 10 people per party.


The Cafe at the Abbey is open daily**, 11am - 3.30pm from 31st October.

* Except the last Friday in November, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

** Except on 24-26 December and 1 January.

Mind, Body & Spirit Fair, 13 November, 11am - 4pm

Join us for a special tour of the Abbey especially for children, with traditional Victorian games in the Great Hall. Includes tour,
