Shrewsbury Shropshire England

Coronavirus update - June 2020

Market Cookshop DSC 3721More market hall traders returning to their stalls

More Shrewsbury Market Hall traders are returning to their stalls from Tuesday June 16

Food traders have been open in the market hall right through the lockdown for customers to purchase essential supplies.

They have also been running home delivery services, which have been a lifeline to many customers, and these still continue.

Indian Street Food has been open for takeaways and, in recent weeks, further cafes and eateries have opened on Fridays and Saturdays for takeaways, along with some other stalls. Urban Bikes UK has fully re-opened for bicycle sales and repairs.

From Tuesday June 16 more stalls will be returning to the market or extending their opening hours to also include mid week. These include homeware boutique Mistilley, White Rabbit Records, Atlas Rugs, The Icing Tip, Romy Design, Generations Antiques, Iron and Rose.wine merchants, Market Cookshop, The Cupboard, Vintage 49a, Botanique, Salopian Models and Snapdragon Wholefoods.

Other stalls, meanwhile, are making a gradual return. Many will initially open on Fridays and Saturdays including The Raven Bookshop, The Pet Stall, Company of Hounds, Rosie Read Art and Lock Stock and Smokiin' Art Shop. Bespoke children's designer Pollypea will initially open Saturdays only.

Cafes and eateries House of Yum Thai street food and salad bar Tom's Table will continue to open for pre-ordered takeaways on Fridays and Saturdays. Aleoli will open Fridays and Saturdays, 8.30am to 1.30pm, for breakfast takeaways, cakes and filled flatbreads.

Mobility Homecare will initially open Tuesdays and Fridays, 12 noon to 4pm, and Sleepwear boutique Goodnight Sweetheart will open Wednesdays and Fridays, 10am to 4pm.

English Bridge Flowers will re-open in a much larger permanent stall on the gallery floor of the market on Friday June 19.

E-Collectica Games plans to return from June 30, Charika Creations from early July, Studio Yi from Thursday July 2, Washed Up Wood plans to return on Fridays and Saturdays from June 26 and Art K Duffy on Fridays and Saturdays from July 3.

Market Facilities manager Kate Gittins said: "Some stalls will be returning to the market more quickly while others will gently ease themselves back by degrees. It will be a real mix and we will keep people updated via social media.

"We have hand sanitiser for customers to use at each entrance and social distancing restrictions will, of course, remain in place.

"To maintain social distancing we have a limited capacity and when this is reached we operate a one-in one-out system with customers asked to queue at the undercroft entrance, between Claremont Street and Shoplatch, and exit via the Bellstone entrance.

"We will also be operating a one-way system on the gallery floor of the market, when necessary, to maintain social distancing."

The market will be losing two of its popular stalls. Ewe and Ply has left the market to concentrate on its wool shop in Oswestry and film camera specialist The Latent Image is leaving the market at the end of June to expand into larger premises in Shewsbury.
