Description :

It was the vision of farmer Martin Vickers 30 years ago to plant a vineyard that would one day match continental sites.

Today, 30 acres of vines are managed by Martin and produce award-winning wines crafted by his son Clive. A family business, the acclaimed shop, restaurant, deli and tea room are run by Clive's wife Lisa, and offer a great day out for visitors.

"It was my vision to create a vineyard on a par with continental sites. I am really proud of the quality of vines we grow today." Martin Vickers, founder and Vineyard Manager.

The first ½ acre was planted in 1983 by Martin who still runs the vineyard today with his family.

By 1991 a further 22 acres were added and today the vineyard totals almost 30 acres, making it one of the largest in the UK.

Halfpenny Green Vineyards are situated 250ft above sea level in well-sheltered south facing slopes, with light, sandy free-draining soil.

staffs halfp23Tom Hill wins Gold at the UKVA Awards!

As one of the Midland's biggest vineyards we enter our wines into local, national and even international competitions yearly. One of the biggest on our calendar is the United Kingdom Vineyard Association Awards, which took entries earlier in the year.

Last week the results were published and we took home no less than eleven awards for our wines! Big winners were our dry white Tom Hill 2014, which took home a Gold medal (one of only 32 in the country!), and our medium dry white Penny Black 2014 which took a Silver medal!

Halfpenny Green Wine Estate Wins Prestigious Cellar Door Award

Halfpenny Green Wine Estate has today announced receipt of a Silver Medal at the International Wine Challenge's Cellar Door Awards 2017.

As one of 9 winners from across the UK, Halfpenny Green Wine Estate is listed amongst some of the biggest vineyards in the country.

The IWC, an international awarding body, hold the Cellar Door Awards each year to determine the best wine-centric visitor experiences in the country. The competition is a joint venture between The IWC and VisitEngland, described as an extensive assessment process, which evaluated the overall customer service and touristic value as well as the quality of wine

Halfpenny Green Wine Estate narrowly missed out on the top Gold Medal, which was award to six vineyards in the South East of England. Silver Medals were awarded to just two other vineyards, meaning Halfpenny Green Wine Estate is the most northerly vineyard to win the award.

"We're absolutely delighted with the results," stated managing director Clive Vickers.

"Since opening to the public in the early 90s we've strived to provide an all-encompassing visitor experience. Our aim is to show our guests how wines can be made in England to an incredibly high standard, and to champion English wine in general, which is competing fiercely on the international scene."

The news follows an abundance of recent wins on the international scene, including a Bronze at the IWC Awards for the dry white 'Tom Hill 2015', as well as Silvers for both the dessert wine 'Late Harvest 2014' and rose sparkling 'Pinot Chardonnay 2011'. The Rondo 2014, a 15% full bodied red, picked up a Bronze award at last year's Decanter World Wine Awards.

With more awards both national and international to be announced later in the year, and the approval of the IWC and VisitEngland behind them, Halfpenny Green Wine Estate are anticipating 2017 will be one of the most successful years in the vineyards 30 year history.
