The Deep is one of the most spectacular aquariums in the world. Located in Hull, East Yorkshire, the attraction is just a short stroll from the City Centre, making it the perfect location for visitors to enjoy the city and all it has to offer as City of Culture 2017. 

Children in liftWe are home to almost 3,500 fish including Green sawfish, spectacular sharks and tropical fish. Not forgetting snakes, invertebrates, turtles and a colony of Gentoo penguins! Journey through the story of the world's oceans from warm tropical lagoons to the icy cold Antarctic seas. Enjoy the fun and educational interactive and audio-visual stations which make The Deep a great day out for all ages.


Make sure you stop at Dylan's Discovery Corner and join in with a touchpool session where you can meet some of the smaller species native to UK shore. Catch sessions every half past the hour between 10.30am - 4.30pm (Please note sessions are subject to change). Here you can also enjoy the fossil brushing station and magic floor, which are perfect for little ones.

Visit our new-look Lagoon of Light display following its £500,000 makeover. It is complete with colourful new corals, large mangrove trees and hundreds of stunning tropical fish. There's even a wave machine to mimic the movements of a natural coastal habitat so that the fish feel more at home! You may also spot our juvenile Zebra sharks, who were born at bred at The Deep. Find out more about the lagoon residents during the dive show, happening every Saturday at 2pm.

Marvel at the magnificent Endless Ocean exhibit that holds 2.5 million litres of water, 87 tonnes of salt and an array of stunning species such as Green sawfish, sharks, rays and a pair of Loggerhead sea turtles. Watch our divers feed some of these animals and help maintain their habitat during our daily dive show at 2pm during weekdays (Monday, Wednesday and Friday are feed dives, Tuesday and Thursday are maintenance dives).

Visitors can see the Amazon Flooded Forest exhibit which is home to some striking species including Red Tailed catfish, Ripsaw catfish and Pacu. Many of the animals here have been rescued from unsuitable homes as part of the Big Fish Campaign. Watch our divers feed the inhabitants every Sunday at 2pm.
Experience life in the Cool Seas zone; see creatures from our coastal waters and discover mysteries of deep-water dwellers, and learn about the diversity of life living in cold water.

Gentoo penguins groupVisit the Kingdom of Ice and our playful colony of Gentoo penguins. See them swim and frolic on the ice a, watch them being fed at 11:30am and 3:30pm. Here you can also learn about the threats to their habitat, issues surrounding climate change and ocean acidification as well as animal biology and food chains.
Descend in to Deep Blue 1 - Living Rivers, learn about five of the world's major river systems; the Amazon, Mekong, Betsiboka, Rio Grande and the Congo. Home to fascinating species including Red-Bellied piranhas, Amazon Tree boa and Axolotl's.

Finally, walk through the underwater viewing tunnel and admire the stunning marine life swimming above you, before taking a ride in our glass lift through the 10m Endless Oceans exhibit. Keep your eyes peeled for a sneak peek behind the scenes!

The Deep is open every day from 10am - 6pm (last entry 5pm) excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas day.


Food & Drink

Castaway's Cafe
Situated on the 3rd floor with great views over the Humber, Castaways is open from 10am to 5pm every day (except 24th and 25th December when The Deep is closed). Offering hot breakfasts (until 11.30am), a range of hot meals and salads (until 3pm) plus snacks, cakes, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks. Children's meals and special dietary requirements are all catered for. Tables that have been raised for easier wheelchair access are also available within this cafe. There is a baby feeding station located in this cafe with bottle and food warming facilities. You don't need an entry ticket to visit the cafe.

Half Way cafe
Open during peak periods, the Halfway Cafe is located in the exhibition (next to the Cool Seas zone). It serves a variety of sandwiches, hot and cold snacks and drinks.

Picnic areas
Picnic areas located inside the attraction on the first floor (next to the Cool Seas zone) and outside of the building next to the river. These areas are operated on a first come, first served basis.

Two Rivers Restaurant
The Deep is home to the superb Two Rivers restaurant three evenings per week. Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 7pm (subject to private hire) dine in amongst marine life and whilst enjoying a freshly prepared menu sourced from locally produced ingredients. Guests can enjoy a two or three course meal from a contemporary menu created with local produce.

You can now enjoy our unique exclusive dining experience in the stunning viewing tunnel for just £165 per couple on Thursday evenings and £175 per couple on Friday and Saturday evenings (upgrades are available). Junior Experience Days

Is your child aged between 8-11 with a passion for marine animals?
Then join us for a fun-filled experience day where your youngster can help carry out some of The Deep's daily activities.
Your child will be part of a group of up to 8 children, who will spend the morning with a member of The Deep's crew, allowing them to get hands on within the attraction.

Activities will include:
Seeing behind the scenes of our river turtle display and Discovery Corner plant room
Taking part in a nori feed at the Lagoon
Cleaning the exhibit acrylic
Taking part in a slime workshop and touch pool session
Invertebrate handling
Question time with a guide
Trying on a dive kit and watching the dive show

Experiences start at 8:30am and finish at 2:30pm.
