RAF Holmpton was built in 1951 as an Early Warning Radar Station this operated at the site until 1974 when the radar functions moved to RAF Staxton Wold - In 1975 the site was converted into a new headquarters for RAF Support Command and had there ever been a nuclear attack on the UK the command bunker at Holmpton would have been the RAF's 3rd most important headquarters.

With the ending of the cold war in 1991 the site then became an Experimental test site for the new UK Air CCIS Communications and Surveillance system. This remained at Holmpton until 2004 when the site (still under ownership of the MOD) became a public exhibition.

Between 2003 and 2014 the number of visitors constantly grew and the exhibition was expanded nearly every year until 2014 when it was no longer able to handle the volume of visitors. At the end of 2014 the site was sold into private ownership and it was decided to take a year out to completely refurbish the site.

2016 marks the opening of our ALL NEW VISITOR FORMAT - You will now be able to
just come along during our opening hours, spend as much time as you like exploring the
bunker with our guides on hand to answer your questions and provide interactive displays and

The is a large car park - A gift shop - Refreshments are available.

The visit is suitable for All the Family but not recommended for under 5's. There are 3 staircases and some quite long walks - The Bunker is centrally heated - Air conditioned and well lit throughout.
