The Piece Hall in Halifax is one of the most extraordinary buildings in Britain.

5 million visitors can't be wrong

The Piece Hall in Halifax has been a major catalyst for the economic regeneration of Halifax and for Calderdale as a borough; exceeding all expectations and cementing its position as the jewel in the region's cultural crown.

It has become an internationally acclaimed heritage destination, attracting more than 5 million visitors from all over the world since it re-opened in 2017. Many come to see firsthand the breathtaking Georgian architecture. The building is Grade I listed and features over 300 individual columns across the three levels bordering a stunning 66,000sq ft courtyard, reminiscent of the piazzas of Italy, Austria or Spain.

They also come for the unique blend of independent shops and food and drink businesses that occupy the building every day, as well as a packed itinerary of year-round events. From incredible one-off spectacles and site-specific sculpture installations, to big name music, food and sporting occasions, family fun days, workshops and outdoor screenings, there is plenty to engage visitors young and old.

'People Play' by Alice Irwin sees a family of twelve colourful characters animate The Piece Hall's courtyard from February – June 2020. This new outdoor sculpture commission and exhibition represents families from Georgian times who worked in the cottage industry and subsequent mill workers, and the many people who have contributed to Halifax as a town for making and production in the modern day.

Food festivals will be back throughout the year with the best in independent food pop-ups and in May, the Tour de Yorkshire returns to The Piece Hall for the third consecutive year.

June and July will rock with two weekends of live music featuring Richard Hawley, the Kaiser Chiefs and The Specials followed by a Festival of Play throughout the summer to keep everyone busy over the holidays, ending with a season of open-air cinema screenings.

Full details of these, and many more events, are available on The Piece Hall website.
